The overall UK economy is strong and employment is high, yet beneath the surface lies a broad malaise. Not enough people are thriving. Income and wealth inequality are among the highest in Europe. Two-fifths of national income goes to the top 10% of earners. Fiscal austerity, low interest rates and quantitative easing have produced little growth. The British economy needs to democratize wealth at its source, not simply redistribute it.
